Tacking Point Lighthouse
Tacking Point Lighthouse is Australia's third oldest lighthouse. It was built on a rocky headland about 8 kilometers south of Port Macquarie, NSW.
Tacking Point was named by explorer Matthew Flinders in 1802 during his 1802–1803 circumnavigation of Australia. The lighthouse was erected in 1879 after 20 ships had been destroyed of the area.
I have visited this location two times, trying to capture a picture that does justice to the area. This image was taken at about three o'clock in the morning. It makes me think of the intrepid sailors that would have sailed these waters back in the old days.
